Skincare Oils are Not All Created Equal

Summer often means fun, sun-filled days outside, everywhere from the mountains to the beach. Most of us love all this exposure to the great outdoors, but often our skin does not. Sun, heat, and wind can dehydrate and stress skin and aggravate conditions you may already have such as acne, uneven skin tone, scars, aging, or even skin problems that accompany pregnancy.

Americans historically have turned to lotions to solve skin issues caused by the environment. It is time, however, to look to Europe and other countries for a better solution to prevent or restore this damage. Oil is the answer. Some may think oil is just used for massages, but in many parts of the world, oil is the primary product used to rejuvenate and nourish skin.  Not just any oil will do, however.

Liquid paraffin based oils such as Bio-Oil, Palmers and Nivea have recently appeared on the market as well as 100% natural oils from one source such as coconut or avocado oil. There are problems with both of these options, though. Both types of oil tend to be greasy and can cause skin reactions. Skin reactions are especially common with the liquid paraffin based oils, which include fragrance with a minimum of ten known allergens. These oils also contain colorants, which are not advisable for sensitive skin.

The solution is B.O.N Nourishing Skin Oil, a natural oil blend combining the best of nature and science. It is light and non-greasy, and was especially formulated and tested for sensitive skin. The fragrance is naturally derived with no allergens and no colorants. Our product also does not contain synthetic vitamin C, parabens or other preservatives. These are just a few of the many reasons B.O.N Nourishing Skin Oil is superior to liquid paraffin based oils as well as individual natural oils.

B.O.N Nourishing Skin oil is made from grape seed, rose hip, and avocado oil, each of which adds different skincare benefits. It is rich in Omegas 3 & 9  as well as vitamins A, E, and C. In fact, our skin oil has five times more Vitamin E than competitors' oils. Vitamin E is vital for effective results. Individual oils have no added vitamin E and Liquid paraffin based oils have a very low vitamin E content, generally less than 0.5%.  Our formulation also includes Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, which allows the natural oils to penetrate deeply into the skin. In contrast, liquid paraffin blocks rather than penetrates skin pores.

Natural oils from individual sources tend to be expensive. They are considered safe with no colorants, but no clinical data generally supports claims made about them. B.O.N Nourishing Skin Oil, on the other hand, has been proven effective in clinical trials performed by an independent facility in Germany, and its benefits have been reported by many satisfied customers.  Despite being natural, B.O.N Skin Oil is priced affordably. Going natural does not have to mean going expensive.

In terms of cost, Liquid paraffin based oils are relatively inexpensive since they use liquid paraffin as a low cost base. These products contain several potentially carcinogenic ingredients, however, including colorants and BHT. BHT is generally used as a preservative. We use Tocopherol to preserve our oils instead, a natural anti-oxidant. Liquid paraffin based oils also contain retinyl plamitate, which is contra-indicated in pregnancy and sensitive skin.

With all the information available, there is no need to risk your health using mass marketed lotions and oils that are not even very effective. Our skin is our largest organ and we need to pay careful attention to what we apply on it.
